Buyers
This information is for Victorian Government staff who need to purchase a good or service as part of their job.
Choosing a path to market
Where there is no existing government contract, the path to market (quotation or tender) is determined by the value of the contract. The following thresholds apply:
Estimated Purchase Value | Minimum requirement |
| Up to $2,500 | One verbal or written quote |
| Between $2,500 and $25,000 | One written quote |
| Between $25,000 and $150,000 | Three written quotes |
| More than $150,000 | Public tender (single or multi-stage) |
Working with your accredited purchasing unit
When buying goods and services, buyers must ensure they comply with relevant procurement policies. Most departmental intranets provide information and templates to help you manage your procurement process. Alternatively, contact your accredited purchasing unit (APU) for procurement advice.
